Kudos to the Theatrical Performance class for a fun and brilliant performance of “Tar Zakaria”, a play written and directed by university instructor, and very talented actress, Mireille Panoussian.
Tar Zakaria was performed at the campus Main Auditorium on December 16, in front of a large audience of students, staff, faculty and friends. It was the first play produced by Azm University in which students actively participated in the theater production, from setting and costume design, to lighting, sound, directing, and acting.
Offered by the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Ms. Panoussian’s course encourages students to explore the connections between creativity, practice, and performance through the production of an actual play. The production allows students to build a rapport with the theater world by grappling with characters, script, and an actual performance in front of an audience.
“While this was the first play produced by the University, it will certainly not be the last,” says Azm University President Ramez Maluf. “We plan to make this a tradition, by producing at least one play every year.”
Theater, according to Dr. Maluf, is an important aspect of media studies because it allows for the exploration of various mediums, such as live performances, film, and television. For example, students can analyze how different actors portray the same character in a play, film, or television show, and compare and contrast their approaches. This type of analysis can provide valuable insights into the craft of acting and the ways in which different mediums can impact the interpretation of a character or story.
