As part of its commitment to experiential learning, the Faculty of Business Administration at East International University (EIU) recently hosted a Purpose Mindset Workshop as a hands-on activity for students enrolled in the MGMT309 Entrepreneurship course. The workshop was facilitated by leadership coach Mrs. Zeina Shalak, Programs Manager at Tatweer Baladna organization.

This unique and customized workshop provided students with essential tools for self-discovery, purpose definition, and goal-setting, all crucial for personal and professional growth in today’s dynamic business environment. It included hands-on exercises on self-reflection, personality types, locus of control and how to define your higher purpose.

The workshop consisted of three key focus areas:

1.      Self-Reflection: Students began with a deep dive into self-awareness, exploring questions around personal identity, self-image, and external perceptions. Through reflective exercises like a personality test and locus of control assessment, students gained insights into their values, motivations, and areas where they can exert control over their lives and careers.

2.      Crafting Purpose Statements: Building on their self-reflections, students were guided through the process of defining a personal purpose statement. They examined questions about what drives them and the impact they hope to make, developing statements that can serve as a foundation for their future careers and life choices.

3.    The Seven Habits and Goal Setting: During the workshop, students were introduced to Stephen R. Covey’s 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, focusing on Habit 1-Be Proactive and Habit 2-Begin with the End in Mind. Based on three key life roles (e.g., mentor, advocate, educator), students were asked to set SMART goals to guide their journey to reach their purpose. Finally, and based on the workshop outcomes, students were tasked to create their own Personal Mission Statements (PMS) and Personal Action Plans (PAP) that outline their steps to achieve their goals per each of the key roles they selected.

Key Takeaways: Students left the workshop with a clear understanding of their purpose, actionable steps to realize their goals, and a structured approach to track their development. The Purpose Mindset Workshop exemplifies EIU’s dedication to developing proactive leaders who are ready to make meaningful contributions to the community and the business world.
