Students enrolled in the Entrepreneurship course at EIU recently participated in an interactive workshop on the Business Model Canvas (BMC), led by Mr. Hani Mawlawi. Through the engaging BMC card game and direct reflection on their own entrepreneurial projects, participants were able to foster both creativity and strategic planning.
During the session, each group received a set of nine cards representing the core elements of the BMC (developed by Alexander Osterwalder and Yves Pigneur). Teams collaborated to arrange the cards in a sequence that best reflected the priorities and operations of their business ideas. This activity sparked lively discussions around critical components such as customer segments, value propositions, and key activities.
Following the game, students applied the BMC framework to their own entrepreneurial projects. By mapping out key aspects like customer needs, revenue streams, and cost structures, they gained practical experience in adapting the model to real-world business scenarios.
The workshop successfully blended theoretical learning with practical application, equipping students with valuable skills in teamwork, brainstorming, problem solving and critical thinking. It highlighted the importance of flexibility and collaboration in business model design, which are essential skills for a successful entrepreneurial project.
